Academic Curriculum

Scheme of Studies

1. The school follows CBSE curriculum outline for both Scholastic and Co-Scholastic areas. However, curriculum for the toddlers in the Playschool with Nursery & Kindergarten is designed to develop the Cognitive, Linguistic & Numerical skills of the students besides targeting development of the Affective domain (social and inter-personal relations) as well as Psychomotor Skills (including kinaesthetic skills, music and Computers). It is important that children achieve learning outcomes of their grade level as emphasised in NEP 2020.
2. English is the Medium of instruction at Narula Public School & special impetus is given to polish the communication skills of the students in English.
3. Bengali/Hindi are taught as second Language from class I upwards. Hindi/Bengali are also taught as third language from class V-VIII for students who opt for Bengali/Hindi as second language respectively.
4. Remediation & Support: Based on the principle of differentiation & differentiated instruction, teachers will devote time for remediation.

Scheme & Structure of Assesments

Nursery-Grade II

The teachers will evaluate the students through continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE). There will be a minimum of 6 cycles of CCE, with each cycle testing the students in all the competencies. The competencies and targeted learning outcomes in foundational literacy skills and numeracy skills of the students up to grade II are to be achieved by imparting competency-based education throughout the session.

Maintenance of Notebooks is an essential component of assessment. The students will be assessed for discipline, conduct & school/class attendance too.

LAT (LEARNERS' ACHIEVEMENT TEST) will be conducted as oral or written test at the end of every lesson, covering key concepts, to ascertain if the students have achieved the learning goals or require remediation. It is meant for diagnosis & will not be included in the allotment of marks.

The assessment structure for grades III to V, comprising of two terms is explained below:

Classroom assessments will be conducted continuously to map & measure learning outcomes, Remedial support will be provided accordingly. Students will be assessed for discipline, conduct & school/ class attendance too.

The assessment structure for grades VI to VIII, comprising of two terms is explained below:

Classroom assessments will be conducted continuously to map & measure learning outcomes. Remedial support will be provided accordingly. Students will be assessed for discipline, conduct & school/ class attendance too. As per CBSE guideline, three projects under skill education will be completed in the session for mandatory implementation of Skill Education/Kaushal Bodh, classes will be allocated in the weekly schedule.

Discipline: The students will also be assessed for discipline which will be based on the factors like attendance, sincerity, behavior, values, tidiness, respectfulness for rules and regulations, attitude towards society, nation etc.. Grading in discipline will be done term-wise on a 3-point grading scale (A=Outstanding, B-Very Good and C-Fair).

Assessment Structure for Classes IX - X

The assessment scheme of IX & X will have an 80 marks component for Board examination (Class X) and Annual Examination (class IX) in all subjects except compulsory subjects to be assessed Internally along with a 20 marks component of Internal Assessment. Students have to secure 33 percent in total in each of these components

ONE TIME SESSION END ASSESSMENT (80 MARKS EACH SUBJECT) IS SUPPLEMENTED WITH SCHOOL BASED INTERNAL ASSESSMENTS

PPT - Pen and Paper tests -restricted to 3 in each subject in a year & average of best two for final submission of marks; will have increasing portion of content.

MA-MULTIPLE ASSESSMENTS include quizzes, oral test, concept map, chapter tests, experiments, class room demonstrations, skit, Role play, group discussion, blogs, etc.

PORTFOLIO-learners actively participate to construct their journey through portfolio building process of selecting, organizing & reflecting their LEARNING OUTCOMES. Portfolios to include Class work, Homework, peer assessment, self-assessment, achievements of students, reflections, narrations, journals, charts, photos, artifacts, assignments etc.

SUBJECT ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES - Enrichment of understanding and skill development in various discipline. SEA includes project work in Social Science, ALS in English and Other Languages, Practical work in Science and Maths, Art Integrated Activities, (circular No. Acad33/2020 dt 14.05.2020) & Life Skils.

Assessment Structure for Classes XI - XII

In Class XI & XII, being a composite course students should take only those subjects in XI which they will continue in class XII. There will be 5 main subjects of study and students can opt for one additional subject. Health & physical education (including work experience) and General Studies are compulsory subjects of internal assessment. The assessment scheme will have theory, internal assessment, or practical components as per syllabus. CBSE will conduct annual examinations for class XII and grades will be awarded on 9 point grading system in each elective subject.

Internal Assessment & Co-Scholastic Activities: For the holistic development of the students, the following co-curricular activities will be conducted at Narula Public School, which will be assessed on a five point grading scale twice in a session.

Educational Trips and Excursions

School Picnics and Educational Visits are an integral part of school curriculum as they are planned with an objective to educate as well as inculcate Life Skills in the students. These trips reinforce, compliment, and extend learning opportunities beyond the classroom. To enlighten the young minds with experiential knowledge, all the students at school will be taken for educational-cum-recreational visits with the consent of the parents, under expert guidance and monitoring of the teachers.
